A little more about Sumer
Doula, Educator and Placenta Encapsulation Specialist
I am a mother of 4, including a set of twins. I gave birth to all 4 of them in just 3 1/2 years!!! My first son was a vaginal birth, my twins were born via scheduled c-section and my last baby was a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean). I know how unique pregnancy, birth, the postpartum period and motherhood can be. My own experience of becoming a mother made me realize I wanted to help support new parents in their pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding journeys.
To me, birthing by heart means birthing from the heart. It’s birthing from instinct - from that place in your heart where mothering comes from. Giving birth isn’t something that you need to learn how to do. Your body instinctively knows how to give birth, but a lot of the time, our heads get in the way. This is where education and having a doula come in.
I don't believe that there's one right way to give birth. Birth varies from mom to mom and from pregnancy to pregnancy. I need only look at how different each of my births were to know that! Getting the inclusive, unbiased, in depth education that you want during pregnancy is the first step in setting yourself up for the birth you desire. The more you know the less fear you will have, and the less fear you have the more excited you can be!

Giving birth is truly life changing, so how we give birth and how we take care of ourselves afterwards matters. As a doula and an educator, I want to help empower you with accurate information so that you can make informed decisions for yourself and your baby every step of the way.

As Sumer mentioned above, we have 4 now grown children. I always wanted to be a hands on dad. Being involved in the birth and the raising of our kids just seemed natural to me.

Labor and birth requires so much physically and emotionally not just from the mom, but from the dad too. Labor and birth is a vulnerable and intimate time, and as the dad we have the important job of being her rock.
​
When Sumer was creating the curriculum for our classes, I quickly realized that I wanted to join her. She knows what it's like to be the mom and to give birth, but I know what it's like to be the dad and main support person.
​
Our classes were especially designed with both mom and dad in mind. Moms learn first hand from a mom. Dads learn first hand from a dad. We've taught hundreds of couples over the last few years, and time and time again we hear how helpful it is to have both perspectives.
In our classes, we keep it real, we laugh, and we pass on the tips and tricks that have worked for us.
