What is a birth doula?

Doula is a greek word meaning woman's servant.

Birth doulas are non-medical, trained professionals who provide continuous physical, emotional and informational support to expecting women and their partners during pregnancy, labor, birth and the immediate postpartum.

birth doula

As your birth doula, I support you during your pregnancy, labor, birth and immediate postpartum. I draw on my professional training, knowledge and experience to provide informational, emotional, and physical support. I help ensure that you have the information you need to make informed decisions as they arise during your pregnancy and in labor. I provide reassurance and guidance to you and your partner, make suggestions for labor progress and positioning, help with relaxation, provide hands on comfort measures and other techniques to help you maintain comfort, and assist with getting baby to breast for the first time.
